James Uicker, Retired Mechanical Engineer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership as a professional engineer.

Inspired by his father, a professor of engineering and the dean of the University of Detroit Mercy, Mr. Uicker pursued a career in in the field, starting as a graduate assistant at the Pennsylvania State University in 1969. As a professional engineer in the state of Michigan, he garnered experience for eight years as a fuel engineer and combustion engineer at the Great Lakes Division of National Steel, and accepted a position as a senior engineer in rotating equipment for Detroit Edison, now named DTE Energy, in 1979. Mr. Uicker held this post for more than 30 years, until his retirement, and throughout his career, he is most proud of the contributions he was able to make during his tenure with DTE Energy—he leveraged his expertise and experience to balance the main turbines in at least four power plants for the company.

As a young man, Mr. Uicker prepared for his career at the University of Detroit Mercy, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1966. He served in the United States Army as a first lieutenant during the Vietnam War from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1969, and continued his academic pursuits at the Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a Master of Science in mechanical engineering in 1971. Mr. Uicker has maintained affiliations with numerous professional organizations, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Engineering Society of Detroit’s Vibration Institute. As a testament to his success and experience, Mr. Uicker has been featured in the 28th edition of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, the third edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, the 12th edition of Who’s Who in the World and multiple editions of Who’s Who in America.
